Men and Flowers
A recent behavioral study out of Rutgers University shows that "men who receive flowers demonstrate increased social interaction and happiness." This research expands on previous findings which concluded that flowers enhance happiness and social connections among women.
In comparison to men who didn't receive flowers in the study, men who did receive flowers:
- demonstrated increased eye contact in conversation.
- stood in closer proximity to the researchers.
- produced more and truer smiles.
Women displayed greater levels of emotion in their selfsame study, in general, but the net effects were equal. "When it comes to receiving flowers, men and women are on the same playing field," said Jeannette Haviland-Jones, Ph.D, the psychology professor who led the study. "It seems that we all express extraordinary delight and increase our social behavior!"
Hopefully, once and for all, science has dispelled the age-old myth that men don't enjoy receiving flowers!
